Sine [2014]

This work depicts the process of aliasing – an attribution of false continuity to a series of discrete samples – the same way a strobe light on a fan conceals its speed and direction. The sine wave of infinite length collapses upon itself; the amplitude remains constant, while the frequency soon exceeds the capacity of the pixels to accurately represent it. It must be continually re-sampled and re-calculated, revealing a series of unexpected patterns and moiré effects as contours break and re-form.
